Tough Truck Race March-2005

I got news of a monster truck show with a tough truck competition at Texas A&M University in College Sation, Texas, so I got the ok from the local organizer to run the Pilot. Friday afternoon, I arrive and get the car prepped and cleaned up so I could display it inside for the pit party the promoters like to do. I got some Coors Light girls to model on the Pilot for some pics(say "bud light" ahahahaha). The only rules for the tough truck were no beer and DON'T HIT THE WALL! The "wall" was the plastic tarp they drapped in front of the folded up bleachers. My first run, I hit the wall pulling into the place! They gave us no practice and I found out imediately there is no traction on smooth concrete with a fine layer of dust. I am suprised anyone could drive on the stuff at all. Anyways, I got DQ'ed from that run before it even started. I ran the short course anyways for fun and to learn what to do next round. The course was a small bump followed by a short tabletop, a left sweeper into another short tabletop, another small bump, turn left into the moderate finish line jump. This was designed for the local bubbas to run their trucks hard but not allow much speed or airtime.

They ran the monster trucks and crushed cars, made noise, thrilled the crowd, etc...

A pair of professional stadium trucks also were on the lineup for the show, not so much racing. I get my second run and do it slow and carefully but still with some throttle when needed. I jump the finish and zip back to the parking lot. After the rest of the show including "Draco the fire breathing, car eating Dragon!", the monster trucks destroy the cars and the track. I am watching the show from the tunnel when the promotions lady comes up to me with a wad of cash and says "good job, you won!" Yes!!!!!! I made a few bucks for the night and went of to dinner and some fun. The next day, I come back for another night and hopefully some more green and they inform me I could not race for cash tonight but was allowed to race for exibition?!?!?! They told me I didn't just beat the local guys in their bubba trucks, I beat the professional guys in their stadium trucks too! Hehe! So, I did the display thing again and sign autographs for gleefull kids. My "fun runs" that night were more of me making mischief on the floor, I took 2 whole laps my 1st run and did some tire smoking donuts, my second run, I jumped the finish line going into the stadium and jumped it twice at the end of my run for fun. I also pulled a power wheelie coming up the hill out the tunnel in to the parking lot to the amusement of all. The guy who won the tough truck contest that night was in a Hyndai Elantra!

I had a blast and peoploe got a taste of the old days when these cars were raced...
